Roads Now Taken

Like yellow-brick road ribbons stretched to the horizon
I drive through fields corn eye-high under azure and cerulean blue skies,
where the music of billowy clouds buoys me across distant miles,
and I am serene.

When the torrential rains and twilight hours merged sky and land,
I could barely discern my path, trusting educated guesses as
opposing cars' headlights spread glare across my windshield,
and I am tense.

I chose the journey and the destination
thinking I would always reach the future and its potential.
Then the vulnerability of this life raft becomes paramount,
and I am on the verge.
